Vespa My love
‘Riding a Vespa is something different than riding a motorbike, even different than riding a traditional scooter, riding a Vespa is riding a Vespa. That aesthetics all its own, that riding that always requires special attention, like for a capricious girlfriend, that sometimes forces you to tightrope walker manoeuvres to avoid being thrown off, make it even more desirable and loved.
How then could one not think of dedicating an out-of-the-ordinary tribute to her?
As the professional photographer that I am, I thought I’d put my knowledge of photography to use to create the most authentic images possible of 1:18 scale Vespa models, starting with the first ones made in 1946, right up to the present day. I set them in all the regions of Italy, looking for a background for each region that was recognisable, or that recalled it for some reason.
At the helm of these marvellous jewels, which have accompanied entire generations of Italians, was the undersigned in a miniature version, who, with a camera around his neck, would document their journey to leave a trace for posterity even when it is over.
